Pray for Kanaky referendum

THE Pacific Conference of Churches stands ready to help the people of New Caledonia as they prepare for the results of the recent referendum vote.

General Secretary, Reverend James Bhagwan, said the people of the Pacific were united in prayer for a peaceful outcome.

Here is his message in English and French to the people of Kanaky:

To our dear sisters and brothers in Christ in the islands of Kanaky,

Warm greetings of the Easter Season!

As we transition into the season of Pentecost, our faith and spirituality fills us with a hopeful anticipation of the advent of the Holy Spirit on the Body of Christ, both then and now.

In there same way there is much hopeful anticipation for the Holy Spirit to outpour on Kanaky during this Sunday’s provincial elections to choose a new Congress for the next five years. We understand that the new Congress is the only institution that has the power to call for another referendum for independence and that a third of members will suffice to do that.

Please know that we are one in heart, mind and spirit with you and we are praying for this to be the advent of a Kairos moment for Kanaky.

We reaffirm your quest for self dtermination in its fullness and want you to know that the the Body Christ in Pacific will be praying for you.

À nos chers frères et sœurs en Christ dans les îles de Kanaky,

Salutations chaleureuses de la saison de Pâques!

Alors que nous entrons dans la période de la Pentecôte, notre foi et notre spiritualité nous remplissent d’anticipation pleine d’espoir quant à l’avènement de l’Esprit Saint sur le Corps du Christ, à la fois aujourd’hui et aujourd’hui.

De la même manière, il y a beaucoup d’espoir pour le Saint-Esprit d’affronter Kanaky lors des élections provinciales de ce dimanche pour choisir un nouveau congrès pour les cinq prochaines années. Nous comprenons que le nouveau Congrès est la seule institution habilitée à convoquer un autre référendum sur l’indépendance et qu’un tiers des membres suffira pour le faire.

Sachez que nous sommes un dans le cœur, l’esprit et l’esprit avec vous et nous prions pour que ce soit l’avènement d’un moment Kairos pour Kanaky.
