A GROUP of World Council of Churches planted native food and shade trees in Fiji’s capital today in an effort to promote peace and justice.
They were joined by the General Secretary of the Pacific Conference of Churches, Reverend James Bhagwan, and Forestry Minister, Osea Naiqamu.
About 20 trees were planted on two PCC properties along Thurston Street, a three-minute walk from the main Government and court complex and in view of the United Nations offices.
Seats and benches will be provided on the site for passers-by to rest in the shade or enjoy lunch.
The WCC delegates are on a pilgrimage of justice and peace ahead of the 2021 General Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany.
In Fiji they will view the impacts of climate change, extractive industry and displacement.
