Students may then apply to their university or college for credit toward their qualification.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Those wishing to attend the course as audits are welcome to join the course. Audits attend all sessions, but no assignments are required.<\/p>\n<p>OBJECTIVES<\/p>\n<p>This course unit will introduce students to the study of ecumenism by:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; examining the biblical and theological basis for ecumenism<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; studying the history of the modern ecumenical movement<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; discussing issues pertaining to the Unity of the Church and to Mission<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; exploring problems and possibilities relating to ecumenical worship<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; considering matters relating to justice, reconciliation and ecology<\/p>\n<p>OUTCOMES<\/p>\n<p>Students will be enabled to:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; develop a critical understanding of the ecumenical mission of the Church<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; give reasons for the modern ecumenical movement, drawing on the biblical and theological imperatives for Christian unity<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; demonstrate a general knowledge of the development of the modern ecumenical movement: the origins of the movement, the formation of the World Council of Churches, Roman Catholic Church\u2019s engagement with ecumenism and how the movement has found expression in Aotearoa-New Zealand<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; reflect on the theological issues with which the churches are currently<\/p>\n<p>grappling<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; display an awareness of other key issues, such as inter-religious dialogue<\/p>\n<p>and matters of social justice<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; engage critically with questions about the possibilities and future<\/p>\n<p>directions of the ecumenical movement<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; appreciate the richness of diversity within the oneness of the Christian<\/p>\n<p>Church<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; exercise critical and interpretative skills in the analysis of key ecumenical<\/p>\n<p>sources<\/p>\n<p>CONTENT<\/p>\n<p>The content of the course will include:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; A presentation of the biblical and theological foundations in the quest for the visible unity of the Church<br \/>\n&#8211; An overview of the history of the modern ecumenical movement<br \/>\n&#8211; An investigation of contemporary issues within the ecumenical movement in New Zealand<br \/>\n&#8211; A study of the outcome of dialogues, both multilateral and bilateral<br \/>\n&#8211; An examination of the current Faith and Order work and publications<\/p>\n<p>SCHEDULE<\/p>\n<p>Monday 30 September \u2013 Friday 04 October 2019<\/p>\n<p>Session 1: 09.00 am \u2013 11.00 am<\/p>\n<p>Session 2: 11.30 am \u2013 01.00 pm<\/p>\n<p>Session 3: 02.00 pm \u2013 03.30 pm<\/p>\n<p>Session 4: 04.00 pm \u2013 05.30 pm<\/p>\n<p>GUEST PRESENTERS<\/p>\n<p>Rev. Prof. Emeritus Robert Gribben<\/p>\n<p>Professor of Worship and Mission, United Theological Hall, Melbourne, chairs the World Methodist Council\u2019s Ecumenical Commission and was co-founder of the Centre for Ecumenical Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Rt. Rev. Prof. Steven Pickard<\/p>\n<p>Executive Director of the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture. Formerly Bishop in the Archdiocese of Adelaide and a professorial fellow at Ripon College, Cuddesdon, Oxford. Currently an Assistant Bishop in the Canberra-Goulburn Diocese.<\/p>\n<p>Cardinal John Dew<\/p>\n<p>Archbishop of Wellington and Vice President of New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference. Conference Liaison for Holy Cross Seminary, the national seminary for formation of diocesan priests. Bishop for the Catholic Bishops Committee for Ecumenism.
