{"id":448,"date":"2019-09-19T00:25:24","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T00:25:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pcc.flofiji.com\/?p=448"},"modified":"2020-11-17T00:29:40","modified_gmt":"2020-11-17T00:29:40","slug":"creation-breaks-barriers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pcc.org.fj\/fr\/2019\/09\/19\/creation-breaks-barriers\/","title":{"rendered":"Creation breaks barriers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VERSES from Islamic and Hindu scripture echoed through Suva&#8217;s Sacred Heart Cathedral last night as people of all faiths gathered to give thanks and pray for creation.<\/p>\n<p>About 400 people attended the ecumenical service hosted by the Archbishop of Suva, Dr Peter Loy Chong and the Pacific Conference of Churches.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the Anglican, Catholic, Methodist and Seventh-day Adventist churches attended the event alongside Islamic and Hindu clerics.<\/p>\n<p>The congregation heard a call to see God in all creation and take appropriate action in the light of the continuing threat of climate change and irresponsibility towards the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Students of the Davuilevu Theological College, Deaconess Training Centre, Pacific Regional Seminary and Pacific Theological College sang hymns of thanksgiving while prayers were offered by faith leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The homily was delivered by Reverend Dr Donato Kacivi, a Marist priest who holds a doctorate in ecological studies from the   Gregorian University in Rome.<\/p>\n<p>People of all faiths were invited to join the service as part of the Catholic church&#8217;s attempt to reach out during its Season of Creation which runs through September until October 4.<\/p>\n<p>The Season of Creation is a new addition to the Catholic liturgy, primarily to address growing concern about the effects of extractive industry, pollution, environmental damage, global warming, sea-level rise and climate change.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VERSES from Islamic and Hindu scripture echoed through Suva&#8217;s Sacred Heart Cathedral last night as people of all faiths gathered to give thanks and pray for creation.
