Dear Pacific Leaders
In December 2009 crucial international talks about climate change will take place in Copenhagen. This is the world’s big opportunity to curb global warming.
I believe these talks must deliver a fair and effective deal for the Pacific, the world’s vulnerable communities and the world’s poor. Please take all necessary action to ensure our Pacific voice and concerns are heard.
Rich countries, most responsible for climate change and with the greatest capacity to act, should sign up to obiligations that commit them to:
- Achieving at least 45 percent cut in domestic carbon emissions by 2020
- Additionally ensuring Most Vulnerable Countries in the Pacific have all the support and resources necessary to reduce their emissions, develop cleanly and adapt to climate change.
